About your stay

We are a small, hardworking team and in essence the site is run with love and powered by tea! In order to help this unique piece of downland thrive we do have a few simple asks, which make it possible for us to share this unique piece of downland with campers …

Meet Your Host!

A big hello from Liz at Wayfaring Farm!

I’m passionate about land conservation, wild camping and travelling, and I love sharing this beautiful area and its many walking and cycling opportunities with guests. I’m always happy to recommend the best local routes, hidden spots and favourite places to explore.

Whether you’re a seasoned camper or trying camping for the very first time, please don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything at all — we’re here to help make your stay relaxed, comfortable and memorable.

Welcome to wild camping on the South Downs!

We hope we are the right place for you. Wayfaring Farm is a place to chill out surrounded by nature, not to party loud, especially after 9pm on a weekday or 10pm at weekends. This is the place for you if you want a glamping or traditional camping experience without noisy hen parties ruining the tranquillity of your break in the country! (it keeps our neighbours happy too)

We are a ‘leave no trace’ site – this means that all rubbish must be taken home with you please. Likewise no fireworks, Chinese lanterns, glitter etc. – basically if it hurts the land or wildlife, it’s a BIG no.

Unfortunately we cannot allow any dogs on site, as sheep graze on parts of the camping field. Don’t worry, they don’t bite!

The sometimes steep and uneven nature of the terrain makes it unsuitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Due to our relative proximity to two main roads we can’t guarantee that you will never hear distant traffic during the day. This is much dimished from 7pm.

Handy hints ...

Please let us know if we’ve missed anything out, or if you need any more info. That’s what we are here for!

The first field as you drive in is our only parking area. Please be aware that you won’t have your car next to you during your stay – this is a truly wild experience.

You can drive to and from the site freely during the day, but it would mean a lot to us if you embraced our ethos of driving through the South Downs National Park which we are situated in as little as possible.  There is so much to see and do on foot or via cycling without driving.

No cars are allowed to drive onto the site after 7pm – we share a drive with our neighbours, and ask that visitors appreciate this. Likewise we ask that you do not drive off the site before 8am.

Liz or Michael will be there to meet you and show you around and explain how our compost loos work.

Many campers like to have a walk around the site before deciding where they would like to pitch their tent/s.  PLEASE be careful not to pitch your tent under a wobbly branch which has the potential to fall on you during the night. It might sound obvious, but we have to say it!

We only have one drinking water pipe, which is situated in the first field. To save having to go back and forth more than you need to we recommend that you fill up your water carrier upon arrival.

There are 3 eco toilets on site. For your own convenience and safety it is important that you know now to get to the nearest toilet before sundown.

If you haven’t used a compost toilet before, they are really easy – it might feel strange not flushing at first but you’ll get used to it. Just place a small amount of compost down the toilet when you’ve finished using it. Hand sanitiser is provided and the loos are checked twice a day.

Please remember to bring crockery and cutlery with you.

You are welcome to use your own fire bowl (as long as it can be raised off the ground). We have firewood for sale –  please make sure you get enough in for the night!

Traditional camping gas stoves are fine too, of course. These are affordable to buy and are useful for making a morning brew, and for making a simple evening meal if you are not used to cooking over a fire. A lot of experienced campers enjoy the atmosphere of a fire bowl, combined with the practicality of a modern camping gas stove.

Our walk-in gas-powered shower is located in the first field and easy to get to. There is plenty of space, a mirror and hooks for your belongings on the door. Daylight streams through the curtained window.  Shampoo and conditioner won’t hurt the land due to our state of the art Matala Bio filter.

Things to remember to bring with you
